REGIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE
DIVISION OF PUBLIC HEALTH
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the position of Regional Public Health Nurse for the Division of Public Health. Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Public Health Nurse, the Regional Public Health Nurse will provide investigation and case management of all assigned reportable diseases within the city of Worcester and three Alliance towns of the Central MA Regional Public Health Alliance (CMRPHA). This includes infectious disease case management and contact training as well as specialized case management for tuberculosis (TB) patients. This position will work with community partner organizations and agencies to coordinate the care of patients and do so in a culturally competent manner. Additionally, the role includes the investigation of foodborne illness complaints, blood pressure clinics and supporting mass dispensing operations. The position requires the use of the Massachusetts Epidemiological Virtual Network (MAVEN) and the Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS).

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:



  • Responsible for the investigation and case management of any assigned reportable diseases
  • Investigate foodborne illness complaints
  • Responsible for the coverage of blood pressure screening clinics in Alliance towns as needed
  • Specialized case management of TB patients
  • Collaborate with partner organizations and agencies to coordinate the care of TB patients
  • Assist with the operation of seasonal flu clinics and other mass dispensing needs
  • Respond to unexpected day-to-day tasks related to public health.
  • Travel frequently within the alliance communities of Shrewsbury, Grafton, West Boylston and Worcester; travel to other communities, as needed
  • Perform all other duties as assigned


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:



  • Familiarity with the MAVEN
  • Familiarity with MIIS
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts General Laws as related to communicable disease investigation, surveillance and quarantine
  • Demonstrate cultural competence working with diverse ethnicities, cultures, and socioeconomic groups
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to develop timelines, meet deliverables and be autonomous
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to analyze problems, provide alternatives, and identify solutions in support of established goals and projects
  • Ability to make formal presentations to large groups
  • Ability to prepare written reports.
  • Ability to remain flexible to perform unexpected day-to-day tasks related to public health
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Two (2) years of professional experience as a nurse
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Skilled Nursing (BSN)
  • Three (3) years of professional experience as a nurse
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Public Health Nurse


SALARY RANGE: $34.20 - $41.75 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
