Wan Lab at the Bond Life Sciences Center Job Description
Wan Lab at the Bond Life Sciences Center is seeking applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow in the area of Virology at the Influenza Systems Biology Laboratory and the Center for Influenza and Emerging Infectious Diseases at the University of Missouri. Our lab is affiliated with the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medicine; Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, College of Engineering; Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine; and MU Institute for Data Science and Informatics at University of Missouri (MU). The Wan Lab currently holds more than $28 million in committed grant funding. The lab is physically located at the MU Bond Life Sciences Center and focuses research on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, especially influenza viruses and SARS-COV-2, by developing and applying integrated, multi-scale, and evidence-based approaches that combine laboratory, clinical and computational methods. The lab has access to the regional BSL-3 and ABSL-3 biocontainment laboratory at the Laboratory for Infectious Diseases Research. This position will be responsible for performing various duties necessary to further research on multiple grants. The successful candidate will work on projects aimed at unraveling the intricate mechanisms by which SARS-CoV-2 and/or influenza gain entry into target cells from humans and a range of animal hosts, and/or studying virus aerosolization and transmission risks. The research will involve studying virus-host protein interactions, receptor recognition, and cellular factors involved in viral entry, budding, and aerosolization. The ultimate goal is to develop a tool to identify transmission risks of SARS-CoV-2 at the animal-human interface and to uncover novel targets for therapeutic interventions and develop strategies to inhibit virus entry. The candidate will be responsible for recording all methods, results, and other relevant information in an organized manner as instructed by the Principal Investigator. S/he will be expected to perform experiments, data analysis and manuscript preparation.
