Position Summary

The Salvation Army Minneapolis Parkview Corps is doing the most good by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families in need. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; and connections to community partners.

The Community Center Coordinator organizes coordinates and implements mission-driven recreational programs and special events. The Coordinator is also responsible for facilitating community center usage for internal and external groups.

Essential Functions (Approximate time spent)



  • Develop, implement, facilitate, and market recreational programs and events (e.g., sports leagues, tournaments, summer day camp, The Salvation Army Outdoors program) for the North Minneapolis community. (40%)
  • Coordinate community center usage with internal and external groups, including scheduling, building/equipment access, and setup/teardown. (20%)
  • Act as an on-site supervisor in the absence of management, overseeing rental groups and volunteers. (15%)
  • Oversee rental agreements, membership database, statistics, and track membership/building usage fees. (15%).
  • Foster positive rapport with youth and their families participating in programming. (5%)
  • Assist with seasonal events and fundraising activities, including driving agency vehicles. (5%)



Education and Experience



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Previous experience in recreational programming is preferred.
  • Must have current CPR and First Aid certification or be able to obtain it within 90 days of employment.
  • Must pass background checks, possess a valid driver's license, and meet MVR qualifications.



Competencies



  • Ability to lead youth activities successfully and safely.
  • Effective rapport-building and de-escalation skills.
  • High level of honor in dealing with confidential information.
  • Proficient with PC and Microsoft Office products.



Working Conditions



  • Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, and typing.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to actively participate in activities.
  • Environment includes office and gymnasium; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
  • Complete The Salvation Army Outdoors program within the first year of employment.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in English.
  • Work hours will include evenings and weekends.



Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Travel Requirements

Drive throughout the local community using an agency for seasonal events/fundraising. Infrequent out-of-town travel.
