Job Summary

The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. Excluded are: a. Craft workers included in a formal apprenticeship or progression program based on training and experience; b. Skilled craft workers required to demonstrate proficiency in one or more trades.

Primary Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues.

  • Responsible for supporting duties as assigned for Facility Maintenance.

  • Responsible for responding in a timely manner to scheduled/unscheduled work requests for a variety of maintenance issues.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Report to supervisor any damaged or faulty equipment, or other safety hazard.

  • Maintains a clean, neat orderly work area.

  • Comply with OSHA guidelines.

  • Participate in all other training required by funding source(s) and/or the Corporation such as Human Rights training.

  • Daily walk-through of facility documenting parameters such as power availability, temperature and humidity, alarm status, etc. to be catalogued and compared for identification of discrepancies and trends.

  • Ability to understand site-specific processes and procedures such as how to report an incident or outage, procedure execution, PM standards, CMMS system, as well as the use of SharePoint to access CE procedures and training content.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience and Certification(s)

  • High School Diploma, General Educational Development (GED) required.

  • Prior experience providing maintenance and repairs of buildings preferred.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI government security clearance with polygraph is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences, and memos, labels and numbers.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situation to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Practical knowledge of painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.

  • Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software.

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and divide.

  • Must be able to pass criminal and drug screening processes to meet current network and/or government legibility requirements that apply or become applicable to this position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop and kneel. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, but when operating machines, the noise level can be loud.
