Nature of Work

The College of Education seeks an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Business Support Specialist I to provide general support that includes a broad range of responsibilities for the College. We are looking for a positive, responsible, proactive individual with strong interpersonal skills and an interest in supporting all College faculty and staff in pursing our mission and vision of promoting student success, research, community engagement, and achieving inclusive excellence. Position reports to the Senior Business Specialist. A 20% remote work opportunity is available upon demonstrating continued satisfactory performance.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Perform a variety of independent, specialized business support duties such as procurement, invoicing, expense reimbursements, and assisting with class scheduling and hiring part-time employees.
  • Successfully perform multiple administrative tasks simultaneously in an environment with frequent interruptions and deadlines
  • Execute, document and report on business and fiscal operations using established templates and procedures
  • Recognize and solve problems that occur, sometimes without supervisory approval
  • Work with various vendors, customers, internal or external constituencies to complete complex projects
  • Assist with advising faculty and staff on UM and campus policies and procedures related to financial and hiring
  • Perform and track budget projections for the department(s) as assigned by Senior Business Specialist
  • Assist with the processing and tracking of student scholarships
  • Assist with scheduling facilities and catering for events, meetings and programs
  • Assist with managing and coordinate program application processes; assist with student recruitment efforts as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Shift

M-F; 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two years of work experience in a fast-paced and varied environment specializing in administrative support
  • Related work experience in an institute of higher education
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office applications and Google suite
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills and process orientation
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $16.50-17.40 per hour
Grade: GGS-006
