Job Summary:

The Department of Asian Languages & Cultures seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Korean Studies to begin in August 2025.

The successful candidate will advance the educational mission of the College of Letters & Science, that values, prioritizes, and actualizes evidence-based and student-centered teaching and (undergraduate student) mentoring. They will contribute to an inclusive, fair, and equitable environment that fosters engagement and a sense of belonging for faculty, staff, students and members of the broader community.


Responsibilities:

The candidate will be expected to conduct significant scholarly research leading to publication at the national and international levels. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, with a general teaching load of two courses per semester. Mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is expected. Professional and university service is required as appropriate for the career stage.

The successful candidate, as a member of the College of L&S, will proactively contribute to, support, and advance the college's commitment to equity among all aspects of their teaching, mentoring, research, and service.

Education:

Required
PhD in Asian Studies or related field with a specialization in Korean Studies. Degree should be in hand by the start of the appointment.


Qualifications:

Candidates for this position must have expertise in the humanities or qualitative social sciences with a specialization in Korean Studies and be fluent in Korean. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level, including a demonstrated commitment to teaching large-enrollment and thematically broad undergraduate courses. Candidates for the position must show potential for developing outstanding and highly visible scholarly research focused on Korean Studies.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience with fostering or the ability to foster an inclusive and equity-centered teaching, learning, departmental, and research environment where all can thrive.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
