The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology is seeking a Research Assistant with demonstrated experience in flow cytometry to work in the Immunogenetics Lab. The work will involve hands-on processing biological samples for clinical flow cytometry tests for lymphoid, non-lymphoid and malignant leukocyte immunophenotyping. The candidate will be involved in R&D work of developing new assays for primary immunodeficiency diagnosis. Training in laboratory protocols and result reporting will be provided. An important part of the job will relate to the development of multi-color (10+) Flow Cytometry assays. In addition, the responsibilities will include a minor component of quality control/assurance (validation of new reagents, tests and instrumentation, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, regulatory compliance), and training of residents and new personnel.

Responsibilities



  • 40% - Performing flow cytometry
  • 40% - Recording/analyzing data
  • 15% - General lab maintenance
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree and at least one and one-half years of related experience or equivalent education, training and experience


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in natural sciences (Biology preferred)
  • Prior experience in flow cytometry is required, experience in immunology and tissue culture is a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Impeccable record-keeping skills, compatible with a clinical operation
  • Dedication and commitment to patient needs, willingness to work overtime on emergency cases
  • Ability to work in teams, good interpersonal skills
  • A good degree of computer literacy (Word processing, Excel spreadsheets) good degree of computer literacy (Word processing, Excel spreadsheets)


Any of the following qualifications confer the candidate a strong advantage:



  • NY State clinical laboratory technologist 'CLT' license
  • Familiarity with BD hardware and software (especially FACS Canto) and/or FCS Express
