The Guler Malaria Laboratory at the University of Virginia has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate the genetic and metabolic mechanisms that allow malaria to adapt to and survive anti-malarial drug treatment. Currently in the lab, we are investigating: 1) cellular mechanisms that drive genetic change in malaria parasites including pathways that contribute to copy number variation and the maintenance of extra-chromosomal DNA, 2) metabolic changes that influence parasite stress responses and survival, 3) new molecular tools for antimalarial resistance surveillance in malaria-endemic countries. This position, supported by the NIH, involves conducting single cell genomics studies of Plasmodium malaria parasites and we are seeking an enthusiastic, focused and creative candidate to join our team. Our lab is located in the Physical & Life Sciences Building at UVA in Charlottesville, Virginia and is within a 10-minute walk of the Medical Center, which provides exceptional opportunities for collaboration among basic and clinical scientists. Our scientific community is heavily invested in training, and we work hard to help trainees develop the skills necessary for successful independent careers. QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Molecular biology or a related discipline (i.e. Genomics, Microbiology, Cell Biology, etc.) is required by the start date of this position. The incumbent will have demonstrated expertise in molecular biology techniques and data analysis including genomics, bioinformatics, and/or RNA-seq, etc. Previous experience with single cell-based techniques and Unix/Linux, python, and/or R for data analysis is also desired but not required. Candidates must have proficiency in spoken and written English. APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs andattach
