What You'll Do: Ensure Compliance. Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal DOT regulations by performing scheduled and random inspections of DOT regulated vehicles. Maintain a strong understanding and comprehension of all applicable state and federal DOT regulations that impact our businesses. Audit and Inspect. Help ensure compliance (both paperwork and facilities) with Vulcan standards and external requirements. Conduct mock audits. Ensure follow through on identified items. Conduct Investigations. Conduct investigations (with the assistance of outside personnel as needed) of accidents. Develop accident prevention measures to share with all personnel. Host Safety Training. Conduct safety meetings and assist facilities with safety meeting topics and delivery. Conduct annual and as-needed training programs, including the Smith System driver training. Conduct defensive driving training programs and identify ways to improve driving habits of all drivers. Manage Claims. Manage liability claims and, in conjunction with operations management, develop approaches to reduce liability and windshield claim experience. Collaborate with Others. Develop relationships with applicable enforcement entities (state or federal) and operations management. Provide communications to the local operations team regarding pending regulatory changes that impact the team locally. Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Skills You'll Need: Education. Bachelor's Degree in business administration, logistics, construction management, or a related field is preferred. Experience. Must have 3 years of experience in logistics and DOT-regulated fleets. Smith System Certification is preferred. Compliance Knowledge. Must have knowledge of and experience with DOT compliance, analyzing driver logs, workers compensation, managing drug/alcohol program, and maintaining driver qualification files. Must have knowledge of environmental and safety regulations in trucking and terminal operations. Must have a good understanding of DOT, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations. Interpersonal Skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization. Must have the ability to relate to all levels of people and represent Vulcan in a professional manner. Must possess effective presentation and interpersonal skills appropriate to all levels of the organization. Organizational Skills. Must possess good organization and planning skills. Must have the ability to establish practices and develop resources to meet or exceed goals and objectives. Problem Solving Skills. Must have the ability to work in a stressful, fast paced, and deadline-oriented environment that requires thinking and acting quickly and creatively to resolve problems. Flexibility. Must have the ability to work in a work environment that will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant.
