Detailed Position Information
The College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Alabama (UA), Tuscaloosa, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor of Psychology. We are seeking candidates working in adult clinical psychology, with preference for applicants specializing in forensic psychology, psychology-law, or correctional psychology. We are also open to exceptional candidates with specializations in health psychology or geropsychology. The anticipated start date for the position is August 16, 2025.
Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and must be license-eligible in Alabama. We seek a candidate with an active research program in clinical psychology that aligns with our program's current strengths. This position will play an important role in our Ph.D. training program, which serves approximately 100 students in seven subareas. Our program has long standing relationships with community partners including Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility, Bryce Psychiatric Hospital, Tuscaloosa County Mental Health Court, Indian Rivers Behavioral Health, Tuscaloosa Veterans Administration Hospital, and University Medical Center.
Responsibilities for this position include research mentoring and development of an independent research program leading to external funding. Successful candidates will be expected to teach courses appropriate to their area of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate levels and contribute to departmental and university service. Candidates should have the following credentials: (1) Ph.D. prior to August 2025; (2) a graduate of an APA or CPA-accredited clinical psychology program; (3) completed an APA or CPA-accredited internship; and (4) eligible for Alabama licensure.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in a relevant area and license eligibility in Alabama.
Research program consistent with adult clinical psychology.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have an active research program with expertise in Psychology-Law, the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students in the Psychology-Law subarea to promote research and practice at the local and national levels, and the promise of securing extramural funding. While current faculty have expertise in forensic assessment and legal decision-making, we are open to a candidate with expertise in any area of Psychology-Law, including correctional psychology, jury decision-making, restorative justice, etc. We will also consider exceptional candidates with expertise in Health Psychology or Geropsychology. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about working in multi-disciplinary teams.
