Position Description

The Department of Psychological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in Social Psychology position to begin September 1, 2025.

About the College

Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22:1 student to faculty ratio.

About the Department/School/Area

Texas Tech University's Department of Psychological Sciences (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/psy/) has doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology (APA accredited), Counseling Psychology (APA accredited), Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, Human Factors Psychology (HFES accredited), and Social Psychology. We currently have 29 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, 5 full-time teaching-track faculty member, 125+ graduate students, 1,500+ undergraduate majors, our own building with office, laboratory, and classroom space, and a newly renovated Psychology Clinic. Faculty have an excellent track record of applying for and obtaining external research funding. Our research programs encompass departmental, campus, community, and national/international collaborations. We have effective working relationships with faculty across campus, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, large area hospitals, numerous clinics and psychological-service agencies, and other multidisciplinary groups in the region.

Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Faculty Qualifications

Candidates must have earned a PhD in Social Psychology or closely related field. Candidates are expected to have a developmentally appropriate record of effectiveness as a teacher, researcher, and service provider, as well, as potential for growth in each of those areas. Applicants are expected to have a program of research that fits within any subarea of social psychology and complements the existing faculty strengths in health, identity, stigma, self-control, substance use, group processes and intergroup relations, and attitudes and persuasion.

Specific required qualifications are:

1. PhD in Social Psychology or closely related field

2. Publication record in social psychology

3. Program of research in social psychology

Preferred Qualifications

1. Grant application experience, funding experience, or expressed plans for future attempts to acquire external funding

2. Program of research complements existing faculty's research

3. Teaching experience

4. Service to the field and/or department consistent with positions held

5. Expertise in close relationships/interpersonal processes is preferred, but social psychologists across all areas of expertise are encouraged to apply
