Grandview Catering & Events provides handcrafted fare and unique experiences brought to life by culinary and event professionals inspired by the latest trends and classic comforts. We focus on attention to detail, quality ingredients and sustainable practices with exceptional customer service. We proudly serve Appalachian State University campuses as well as off-site events for university-affiliated businesses, community members and alumni with Grandview Ballroom featured as our premiere event space.

We're looking for a team-oriented and driven individual to hit the ground running and join our growing team. The successful candidate will work with others to ensure the highest quality of preparation and standards are delivered.

Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Operating commercial dishwashing machines
  • Properly mixing chemicals to ensure correct washing and sanitizing of items
  • Storing and labeling cleaning supplies appropriately
  • Scrubbing, cleaning and maintaining equipment daily and reporting equipment malfunctions or damage
  • Organizing, stocking, and cleaning the kitchen area
  • Assisting with maintenance of the Grandview Ballroom as needed
  • Emptying trash and recycling, sweeping and mopping each day
  • Following all applicable health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
  • Stocking food products into dry storage and refrigerators/freezers, along with frying oil.
  • Delivering a team player attitude
  • Displaying initiative to work beyond what is requested within the unit to achieve business
    goals of quality and service standards
  • Move and position one's self and items quickly and efficiently under sometimes very warm temperatures from ovens, shelves, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

  • Basic math skills and ability to scale calculations for the mixing of chemicals and cleaning supplies
  • Ability to interact effectively with coworkers of varying ages, backgrounds, identities, and
    interest
  • Ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced envionment without loss of efficiency or effectiveness
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of related experience working in a commercial kitchen or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Knowledge of culinary principles, practices, and procedures of food service production

Required Functional Competencies to Successfully Perform Job Duties.

  • Cleans and sanitizes assigned work areas and equipment in accordance with departmental sanitation guidelines.
  • Listens to instructions, asks necessary questions to complete tasks and communicates with fellow worker in a manner that allows work to be completed.
  • Restocks the shelves with food products and other products as they arrive from the storeroom.
  • Identifies and appropriately operates all dishroom equipment and machinery such as dish machine, disposal, pot sink, box bailer, and can compactor.
  • Interacts with others in the work area in a respectful manner that encourages accomplishment of work tasks.

Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
