The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Physician with the Nancy J. Cotterman Center.
General Description
Plans and participates in the medical care of persons participating in a County health program or being treated in a County health care facility.
Formulates long-range goals for the organization, develops policy and position papers and negotiates with the chief administrative officer and/or elected officials.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires graduation from an accredited school of medicine and successful completion of an approved residency appropriate to the area of assignment.
Requires three (3) years in the practice of medicine, which may include residency and/or fellowship terms, with at least two (2) years of that experience being in psychiatric, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorder clients or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Licensed as a physician to practice medicine in the State of Florida as provided for in Chapters 458 and 459 of the Florida Statutes.
Depending upon area of assignment, may be required to obtain certification in Buprenorphine.

- Administrative/Clinical experience with child abuse, neglect cases and medically fragile children
- Experience with testifying in criminal or dependency court as a medical expert and participating in depositions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Examines, diagnoses, and treats general or specialized medical problems of the eligible persons under a County health program and/or of patients in a County health care, substance abuse treatment, or mental health care facility.
Plans and develops medical, nutritional, hygiene, educational or health programs appropriate to the area of assignment; provides supervision to other health care professionals in the provision of medical treatment or care as required for the area of assignment.
Documents medical-legal evidence for legal defense and prosecution or presents evidence in court appearances.
Reviews and recommends public health program policies, practices, and procedures as required for the area of assignment.
Communicates with hospital, emergency room, and other physicians regarding patient care as needed; may also communicate with the agency's Treatment Director regarding patient care.
Applies knowledge of addiction and treatment, buprenorphine treatment, or other specialized treatments.
Provides after hours, on-call coverage or coordinate emergency medical or medical need responses for patients as assigned.
Completes physician documentation such as progress notes, orders, history and physicals, and discharge summaries in a professional and timely manner in keeping with physician practice standards.
Participates in interdisciplinary staff meetings as required to coordinate and review the delivery of patient care and related services.
Abides by all safety and/or risk, infection control, and other guidelines; ensures that State and Federal regulations or other accreditation standard/s adopted by the area of assignment, are met and maintained.
Prepares periodic evaluative reports on medical services.
Provide diagnostic evaluations and medical consultations regarding abused and neglected children.
Analyzes data of the Child Protection Team - Medical and develops policies and procedures to address deficiencies; reviews program overviews and policy and procedures for complimentary medication, infection control, and committees; reviews policies and procedures pertaining to Nurse Practitioner staff.
Provides medical consultation for the Broward County Human Services Department as a whole and medical education to the community; provides consultation throughout all programs to include staff and the citizens of Broward County as it relates to the Child Protection Team, child abuse and neglect.
Attend team staffings, as necessary
Prepare medical reports of evaluations and medical consultations in CPTIS
Provide depositions and court testimony
Participate in after hours on call, if needed or as scheduled
Successful completion of a minimum of eight hours of training per year in child abuse, abandonment, and neglect
Provides in service and various educational services for staff; provides consultation to staf
Performs related work as assigned.

Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
