Position Purpose
Provides academic support to first and second year undergraduate Dartmouth students interested in studying engineering through the Dartmouth Emerging Engineers ( DEE) program. Additionally provides leadership, training and logistics support to a team of 10-15 student tutors.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (ideally engineering, physics or mathematics) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide academic support (tutoring) to students in calculus, physics, chemistry and computing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to adapt to students with varied backgrounds and interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Judgment in managing sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience tutoring college students in STEM fields.
  • Confidence in tutoring in all of the following subjects: single variable, multiple variable and vector calculus, calculus-based physics (mechanics, electricity, magnetism), fundamental principles of chemistry, scientific computing (C and Matlab).

Academic Support (75%)

  • Provides academic support to DEE students for single variable, multiple variable and vector calculus, calculus-based physics (mechanics, electricity, magnetism), fundamental principles of chemistry, scientific computing (C and Matlab))
  • Assist tutors in refreshing and enhancing their academic skills to effectively support DEE courses



Leadership and logistics support (25%)

  • Keep up-to-date with course syllabi and prepares tutors for upcoming topics
  • Conduct general training sessions for tutors
  • Collaborate on the development and expansion of DEE from serving just the prerequisite courses into a support program for students within the major
  • Serve as a member of leadership team
