Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is looking for a dedicated Diagnostic Imaging Technical Specialist to join the team. This role will be Full-time Day Shift from Monday - Friday, with Evening Coverage as needed and Night and Weekend On-Call Rotation. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

MRI Safety Officer Job Responsibilities:



  • Provides clinical services according to MRI practice standards and acts as a resource to MRI students and other technologists to ensure optimal department functions.
  • Ensures proper policies and procedures for day-to-day MRI safety are enforced. Adheres to department policies and protocols ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation, as demonstrated by exam results.
  • Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast under the American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines. Creates, enforces, and audits MRI-safe practices across the system. Develops, documents, and introduces in conjunction with and under the authority of the MRMD/ MRRD, safe working procedures for the MRI environment.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of magnetic resonance principles and theory, anatomy, and pathology processes utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or positioning for optimal examinations, as demonstrated by exam results. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of IVs, heparin locks, and central line usage as they pertain to MRI, as evidenced by supervisor and peer observation.
  • Communicates effectively with the patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from the patient or patient's chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results. Explains the procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation, as evidenced by customer satisfaction. Demonstrates patient safety in the department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms, and patient monitoring, as demonstrated by risk management reports. Correctly identifies patients and their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled images and EMR patient charts. Tracks patients according to department procedures. Identifies errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the EMR and PACS reports.


MRI Safety Officer Additional Requirements:



  • Work schedule: Full-time Day Shift from Monday - Friday, with Evening Coverage as needed and Night and Weekend On-Call Rotation
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of radiography; or graduate of an accredited school of MRI training (must be MRI Registered through ARRT); or MRI certification from ARMRIT or CAMRT
  • Licensure: Must be MRI Registered through ARRT, American Registry Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or Canadian Association Medical Radiation Technologist (CAMRT) certification. Must obtain Magnetic Resonance Safety Office (MRSO) course certification within one year of hire
  • Certification: Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Experience: 5 Years of experience as a MRI Technologist in a hospital/ healthcare or outpatient environment.
