Job Description Summary:

The Inspector C (Mechanical) is responsible for performing inspections and/or audits of purchased parts, materials, equipment and quality control programs. Interprets manufacturing drawings, diagrams, specifications and lists to approve or reject units or systems for in-process or final assemblies. Performs sampling and testing of incoming components and raw materials. Ensures raw materials, in-process, and finished products meet company standards. Determines or assists in determining methods and procedures necessary for inspection.

Job Description:

  • Performs basic inspections on a variety of materials, components, assemblies, and/or systems. Types of inspections include visual, workmanship, dimensional, and electrical.
  • Documents work results and generates inspection reports.
  • Complies with safety and security rules and observes good housekeeping practices.
  • Accomplishes assignments with direct supervision.

Typical equipment used includes
Microscopes. micrometers, gauge blocks, pin gauges, compactors, surface plates, height gauges, rotary tables, coordinate measuring machines, and roundness and surface analysis equipment.

Skills/Abilities
* Able to use and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and work to inspection procedures.
* Able to follow and execute to verbal and written instructions.
* Knowledgeable in Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel.

Education
High school diploma or its equivalent, plus two years of technical schooling related to engineering, science, and/or mathematics.

The two years of technical schooling may be satisfied through one of the following:

* An Associates degree in an engineering or science program

* Five college credit technical courses in the area of engineering, science, and/or mathematics. One college level writing class can be counted toward the five courses.

* Quality Inspector Certification (CQI) from the American Society for Quality (ASQ)

Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in a quality assurance organization performing tasks related to the inspection of Machined stampings, moldings, castings, threaded components, sheet metal parts, and bearings.

*Qualifications for employees hired into the classification before 2012*
High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum of one year experience as a precision mechanical inspector, sound knowledge of shop practices is required.
