Duties and Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction, the Director of Development, Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago (Arrupe College) is responsible for establishing strategic short- and long-range fundraising goals for the University by identifying, cultivating, solicitating and stewarding donors for major and planned gifts. The Director develops and manages strategies and staff to achieve goals.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Development, Arrupe College, will set and achieve fundraising goals and metrics for Arrupe College in addition to managing a broad portfolio of prospects for other university programs and initiatives. The Director of Development will participate in the qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of major and principal gift prospects with a capacity of $100K - $5M for both Arrupe College and other university programs and initiatives. The Director will set and achieve fundraising goals and metrics for prospects. The Director will partner with the Dean of Arrupe College and work closely with faculty and other university leadership to cultivate, solicit and steward major and principal gifts from alumni and friends in the successful attainment of the goals for based on university priorities and campaign initiatives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Development, Arrupe College, will:

  • Manage the total range of fundraising activities (qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship) of an assigned portfolio of prospects and donors including directly soliciting and managing the solicitation of major gift prospects.


  • Make a defined number of visits and solicitations per year designed to move prospects toward making a philanthropic commitment to the university.
  • Provide support to the Dean of Arrupe College and for the volunteer leadership for Arrupe College.
  • Write and edit correspondence, proposals, and reports to prospective donors and major gift/capital campaign gift donors.
  • Prepare contact reports on meetings and interactions with donors and prospects.
  • Coordinate appointments and prepare any required materials for meetings, visits or phone calls with Deans, President, alumni volunteers, or other senior administrators with alumni and friends within prospect pool.
  • Work collaboratively to facilitate the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Minimum qualifications includes a bachelor's degree, 3-5 years experience in fund raising preferably in a higher education environment.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant fundraising experience or sales experience in a complex organization. Preference for demonstrated success in making and closing four and five-figure gift solicitations from individual donors. Transferable experience in sales will be given equal consideration.
  • Experience in higher education is a plus.
  • 3-5 years significant leadership experience.
  • Must have demonstrated, successful track record of donor cultivation and solicitation.
