Job Description

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Missouri, St. Louis invites applications for a position as Assistant Teaching Professor (renewable, promotion eligible, non-tenure track). The expected start date is August 1, 2025. Area of specialization (AOS): Philosophy of Mind or Cognitive Science. Area of competence (AOC): Metaphysics & Epistemology. Ability to teach courses in Bioethics, Neuroethics, Artificial Intelligence, or courses related to Geospatial Intelligence is desirable.

The standard teaching load for the position will be four courses per semester, with usual non-teaching duties expected, including willingness to be involved with undergraduate and graduate student organizations and to serve on MA Thesis committees. The position has no publication expectations. Salary and benefits are competitive.

The Department has a well-regarded M.A. program, a vibrant cohort of majors and minors, and many connections to the philosophical community in the St. Louis region.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Philosophy as of August, 2025 is highly desirable; ABD candidates close to completion will be considered.
  • A record of effective teaching and supporting the success of students from a wide range of diverse backgrounds and experiences is expected.
