Job Summary

This position exists to provide support to a large group of scientists from diverse fields (biochemistry, structural biology, cell biology, immunology, systems/synthetic biology, neurobiology, dev. biology, engineering, physics, chemistry) who are interested in applying interdisciplinary approaches to cutting edge problems. The laboratory studies diverse cell types (T cells, neurons) to elucidate the general logic that cells use to solve common regulatory problems. The lab's research aims to understand the design rules of cellular networks to apply this knowledge to engineer designer cells that carry out therapeutic functions, such as sensing and destroying cancer.

The position of Laboratory Assistant in the Lim Lab is essential for supporting the efficient and effective daily operations of the lab and its in vivo studies by providing support in the maintenance of the lab's animal colony and associated in vivo studies.


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $22.58 - $27.74 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Cellular & Molecular Pharmacology (CMP) is a basic science department within the School of Medicine and performs research and training. CMP provides administrative and financial services to 15 primary faculty members; 5 adjunct faculty members; 37 non-faculty academics; 36 postdoctoral scholars and 21 graduate students.

Required Qualifications


  • Graduation from high school, completion of training equivalent to the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician certification of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS), and one year of animal care experience; or high school graduation and two years of animal care experience in the care of an animal species appropriate to the particular job; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working with animals (mainly mice), animal colony management.
  • Experience with animal study workflow software
  • Ability to problem-solve, prioritize work, balance multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
