Job Summary

The Henrich Lab, in the UCSF Division of Experimental Medicine (DEM) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) and its partner Division of HIV, Infectious Disease and Global Medicine are seeking a Staff Research Associate I/II (SRA I/II) to work on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and SARS-CoV-2 research. The laboratory is a dynamic research environment with translational research focused on the immunology and molecular epidemiology of HIV and COVID-19, and the investigation of new drugs and gene therapy approaches aimed at boosting the immune system's ability to clear the body of HIV and other viral infections.

The SRA I/II will work under general supervision and receive department training and familiarization with the function, to work with the Principal Investigators and research teams in implementing study protocols and performing laboratory work including isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), flow cytometric analyses, molecular biology techniques, tissue culture, and organizing samples and data in the laboratory, and coordinating work with local and international collaborators. This position and work support funded HIV and COVID-19 research using samples from multiple ongoing projects at UCSF. The SRA will help organize laboratory resources and be involved with training students and other laboratory members. The SRA will also implement and troubleshoot from various nucleic acid-based quantitation assays. The SRA will also help with tissue processing from infected individuals for downstream immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization studies.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).

The Division of Experimental Medicine is a translational, wet lab research unit comprised of 8 faculty members and 65+ staff, trainees, and post-docs. Required Qualifications

SRA 1

  • BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to adapt and use good judgement when making decisions.
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to prioritize work and tasks appropriately.
  • Familiarity with use of Computer and relevant programs (Microsoft Word, etc.)

SRA 2: In addition to above
  • One or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the positon; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications


  • BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position and demonstrating technical expertise in these areas; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Laboratory experience, which may include undergraduate level biology-related coursework and laboratory work.
  • Knowledge of various procedures and laboratory techniques, such as: flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, RT-PCR and others
