THE SALVATION ARMY North & Central Illinois Division Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center - Chicago POSITION:YADI Coordinator FLSA: Exempt The YADI (Youth Asset Development Institute) Ministry Attendant will be responsible for creating an inviting and purposeful environment within the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center to grow ministry in all programs and the Kroc Corps (Church). This includes facilitating A.C.C.E.S.S. programs and activities, programming educational activities, spiritual opportunities, purposeful - leisure experiences, health initiatives, social activities, working with volunteers, and increasing youth participation in the overall Kroc Center programs and membership. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As a member of the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center Team, the Ministry Attendant will assist the Youth Development and Outreach Specialist with the planning, directing and guiding of the A.C.C.E.S.S. programs and activities.
- The Ministry Attendant will help facilitate and evaluate programming that meets the goals and objectives of the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
- Utilize developed curriculum that is appropriate for the youth and teens participating in programming at the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
- Facilitate daily activities for youth and teens utilizing various Kroc programs, educational and social activities, health initiatives, trips, games, Bible Studies, and events.
- Mentor youth and teens providing spiritual direction and emotional support.
- Assist in implementing a measurement tool for program development and evaluations using Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets and other measurement tools as approved.
- Contribute to the development of outreach initiatives that target youth and their families.
- Support the annual budget preparation, specifically related to the teen and youth ministry programs of the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
- Help ensure an office support system that will allow for timely and accurate record keeping, including the areas of statistical reports related to all programs, accounting of expenditures and other reporting as required.
- Aide in the planning of ministry opportunities that target youth who do not have a church to come to the corps (church) on Sunday
- Implement and maintain a healthy "follow-up" program with participant families and first time visitors to Kroc youth and teen programs
- Participate and help plan outreach events focusing on family enrichment
- Work with program staff and ministry team leader to develop strategies for bridging programs/events and connecting children and families to all parts of the Kroc Center.
- Teach high-energy bible lessons for Children's Church engaging youth's auditory, visual, and kinesthetic senses in accordance to The Salvation Army doctrine.
- Lead youth and/or teen Sunday School using the Orange material or other material assigned by The Salvation Army.
- Attend Sunday Service and assist with elements of worship as assigned by the Youth Development Outreach Specialist, Congregational Officer, the Youth Officer, the Business Officer, and the Senior Kroc Officer.
- Will help lead and assist with the Teen Program "AAM" by providing support spiritually and developmentally using YADI Assets.
- Will provide support and occasional leadership for activities that encourage character and life skills development through the Salvation Army Character Building Program.
- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures and The Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center Standard Operating Procedures.
- Leadership
- Assist the Youth Development and Outreach Specialist to ensure that A.C.C.E.S.S. attendants and volunteers are competent, trained, to the mission of The Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center and The Salvation Army.
- Assist to ensure that all staff and volunteers are adhering to Safe From Harm guidelines and all proper procedures are followed.
- Maintain clear channels of communication with staff, volunteers and program participates. This may include the writing of internal reports, schedules, and one on one discussion.
- Meetings and Communication.
- Works in a cooperative manner with the other on-site staff. This includes the reporting of all statistics and outcome reports of the center related to youth and teen programming.
- Attends all scheduled staff meetings.
- Works in cooperation with other departments within the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Education, Arts, Athletics, and Aquatics)
- Report any suspected abuse to immediate supervisor
- Keep all appropriate records such as attendance and time sheets.
- Professional Growth
- Attends workshops, conferences, seminars, or retreats for professional growth in youth education as encouraged and directed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Youth Development and Outreach Specialist and the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center Officers.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- 2 years minimum of Post High school Education and/or Bible Training or related studies.
- Demonstrated success with increasing levels of responsibility.
- An exposure to youth ministry, especially in faith-based organizations is preferred.
- Must Be CPR, First Aid, and Safe From Harm Certified within 30 days of HIRE.
- Valid Illinois Drivers' License and insured transportation within 30 days of HIRE.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT This position has an essential role in fulfilling the full mission of The Salvation Army. Because of the integral nature of this responsibility, membership as an active Salvation Army Soldier (church member) of the Kroc Center or willingness to become a member within 6 months of hire. The Ministry Attendant will be a key member of the corps leadership and launch team.
