Position Announcement

The College of Science, Engineering & Technology at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to begin January 1 or July 1, 2025. The preferred candidate will possess a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline, or an MS with professional expertise. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, but candidates with adequate teaching assistant experience are also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop courses in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The preferred candidate will have experience in current Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning practices. Potential courses to be taught will be determined by the strengths of the applicant. Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year of graduate and undergraduate courses each academic year in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Science.
  • Deliver instruction using lecture, laboratory, project, and other modalities.
  • Engage and mentor students in active and experiential learning, with progressive developmental experiences.
  • Provide leadership in the development and oversight of the Center for Applied ML/AI.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of programs and projects in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Science.
  • Conduct public and private outreach activities for the Center for Applied ML/AI.
  • Attend department, college, and university faculty meetings; program management and adhere to university policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and/or Computer Science required. Applicants who are currently enrolled in a doctoral program with graduation pending by August 2027 will also be considered.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with relevant prior teaching experience and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Project management experience for industry or student projects preferred.
  • Strong commitment to and evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, including an ongoing commitment to improvements in teaching methods and curriculum.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and commitment to collegiality and teamwork.
  • Commitment to active learning, experiential learning, and student engagement.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $100,000-$120,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
