Job Summary

This position requires an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; can independently perform the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/ issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.

Primary responsibility of the Program Policy Analyst (PPA) will be focused on supporting the PIs grant from the UCOP HBCU Initiative. This HU-UCSF scholar program provides research opportunities in health disparities for undergraduate students with the desire to pursue a PhD, DDS/PhD or MD/PhD. Students selected for summer research at UCSF spend ten weeks working with faculty members on research projects focusing on a wide-array of research, including health policy, data science and epidemiology. Participants in the program take part in seminars, lectures, and social events. At the end of the program, students give presentations of their research and receive valuable feedback from students, postdocs, and faculty at UCSF.

This is a 10% contract appointment with an end date of 8/30/2025.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $128,600 - $192,900 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences conducts multidisciplinary instruction, research, and patient care programs through its seven divisions: Behavioral Sciences and Community Dental Education; Biomaterials and Bioengineering; Clinical General Dentistry; Endodontics; Oral Epidemiology and Dental Public Health; Pre-Clinical Simulation; and Prosthodontics.

The department offers postgraduate education in Dental Public Health and Epidemiology, in conjunction with the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley as part of the Dentist Scientist Award Program for dentists interested in combining specialty training with a PhD in Epidemiology. An accredited dental residency program in Dental Public Health is also available for dentists who are interested in specializing in Dental Public Health.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience
  • Expert knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Highly skilled communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with and influence others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Highly skilled in all levels of project management.
  • Expert knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols and procedures and external regulatory requirements in policy domain.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Expert analytical / problem-solving skills.
