Job Objective: Assist with the provision of basic care, health and safety of clients in a residential program.

Essential Functions:



  • Monitor client vital signs and overall medial condition, including mental and physical stability as evidenced by client behavior
  • Monitor client's appropriate use of medication, following program guidelines for same
  • Responsible for intake/admission screening, placement, and discharge of clients
  • Follow program discharge guidelines. Monitor client activities and document same according to program guidelines
  • Assist with the coordination of interoffice communications as requested by answering incoming telephone calls, inquiries and client referrals, directing the caller to the appropriate person for resolution, assuring client confidentiality is appropriately maintained
  • Ensure that there are a sufficient number of blank forms/materials on hand for the on-going maintenance of client files and related administrative responsibilities
  • Assist with urine analysis and breathalyzer tests of clients as requested
  • Assist with providing for client's basic needs according to program guidelines (e.g. issuing linens, towels, personal hygiene products, etc.)
  • Assist with the serving of food, setting up for and clearing up after mealtimes as assigned
  • Assist with the implementation of counselor directors for clients
  • Monitor the security system and conduct security rounds according to program guidelines
  • Respond to and/or communicate inappropriate activity in accordance with program procedures
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment
  • Be consistently at work on time as scheduled - program location may be reassigned according to needs
  • Perform related duties as requested or required.



Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; some college credits, particularly in addiction courses, preferred; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Experience: Minimum one year of previous continuous work experience preferred

Certifications/Licenses: Must obtain certification in FPR and First Aid within the first 90 days of employment and maintain certification as required; must obtain TB test before the first day of working in the program

Skills/Abilities:



  • Support of Salvation Army Mission Statement, policies and procedures
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure in crisis situations
  • Ability to have positive affect through communications with a diverse population
  • Ability to perform job duties effectively
  • Competent in use of computer and possess the ability to learn related software as required
  • Audio and visual acuity needed for the supervision of clients and security system
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information, including HIPPA requirements
  • Exemplify professional attitude and conduct
  • Familiarity with the Twelve Step Programs helpful
  • Some knowledge of drug and alcohol treatment is a plus
  • Assist with client transportation as needed


Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: Include speaking, hearing and vision ability; walking, sitting and standing for extended periods of time; manual dexterity; lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: Must possess a valid driver's license from the state of residence; must be approved through the Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to driver either a Salvation Army or personnel vehicle for Salvation Army business

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a residential care setting; some weekend, evening, overnight, and holidays work required; may be required to come in early or stay over during inclement winter weather; employee should come prepared to stay, if necessary; meal will be provided if required to stay
