Natural Resources Staff Scientist

S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Natural Resources Staff Scientist to join our Environmental team in Charlotte, North Carolina.

About the Role:

As a Natural Resources Staff Scientist, you will be responsible for the performance of natural resources projects including office-based and field activities. You will support natural resources projects including regulatory agency coordination, wetland/waters of the U.S. delineations, protected species assessments, stream restoration monitoring, report writing, and environmental compliance. Additional consideration will be given to applicants with GIS experience including providing technical GIS support and production of figures for scientific reports.

About You:



  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related field
  • You have a minimum of 2 years experience or previous studies in environmental compliance (natural resources)

    • Specific experience a plus:

      • Waters of U.S. delineations requiring identification of wetland vegetation, hydrology, and hydric soils
      • Environmental permitting related to impacts to waters of the U.S.
      • Protected species and ecological assessments




  • You have a working knowledge of ESRI's ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcMap software
  • You are willing and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain for several hours
  • You are willing and able to occasionally travel overnight for out-of-town fieldwork
