POWER COMPONENTS ENGINEER, (STARSHIP)

The Starship electrical hardware development team supports the mission to revolutionize orbital flight and space travel - opening access for humankind to establish new frontiers in space and ultimately become a multi-planetary species. Our team builds some of the most advanced electronics ever flown in space- at a cost and rate previously considered unthinkable in the space industry. RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Able to serve as the responsible engineer and extreme owner for the design, analysis, fabrication, and qualification, of high-voltage batteries, traction inverters, power generation, power distribution, and other electromechanical components.
  • Thermal, structural, dynamic, and tolerance analysis for electro-mechanical assemblies using both hand calculations and finite element analysis
  • Participate in initial mechanical design, 3D models, and creation of production drawings and design data maintenance.
  • Failure analysis of components as it relates to thermal, loads, vibration and shock
  • Interface with machine shops and production teams to ensure final designs can be produced in accordance with overall project goals
  • Own the hardware delivery timeline and success through inception, design, assembly, test, and integration
  • Participate in internal design reviews and reviews with suppliers and customers


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, math, engineering or scientific discipline
  • 2+ years of professional experience with mechanical/electromechanical hardware design and analysis


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Strong first-principles understanding of engineering fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience with electromechanical design, prototyping, testing, and/or precision mechanical assembly
  • Experience in the use of hand calculations, finite element analyses (FEA), and computer-aided design software (CAD) in component design.
  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T
  • Basic domain knowledge of power component design fundamentals (e.g. motors, inverters, batteries, solar, or energy storage systems)
  • Exposure to high volume production designs with a focus on design for manufacturability
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, managers, and suppliers


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Must be willing to travel as needed to Starbase launch facility - Brownsville, TX
  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:
Power Component Engineer/Level I: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00/per year
Power Component Engineer/Level II: $115,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation & will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are eligible for 5 days of sick leave per year.
