Job Summary

Central Washington University is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Multicultural Education to join our Department of Curriculum, Supervision, and Educational Leadership (CSEL) team in Ellensburg, Washington. This role is an important member of our team as they enhance for the University. The role is a campus-based position, which means you get to see the lives you are impacting. We're offering a salary, depending on education and experience, from $66,000 - $76,000 annually plus the awesome CWU benefits.

The Role:

The Department of Curriculum, Supervision, & Educational Leadership (CSEL) is seeking an Assistant Professor of Education with a focus in social justice, contemporary multicultural issues, and culturally responsive teaching. Primary responsibility includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Multicultural Education and Culturally Responsive Teaching. Candidates with knowledge of and connection to Tribal communities of the Pacific Northwest would also have the opportunity to teach courses integrating Tribal sovereignty, culture, and history for teacher candidates. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, scholarly activity (peer-reviewed publications, grant writing, conference presentations, etc.), program development and assessment, and professional service. Faculty will integrate CWU's commitment to diversity and create a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible and inclusive for all students.

CWU and the CSEL department have a long tradition of preparing teachers and school administrators. We continue this commitment with large and diverse undergraduate teacher education programs, innovative alternative pathways and residency programs, and investment in the next generation of teachers through Teacher Academies.

Education faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to a constructivist philosophy, keep abreast of current and emerging education trends (e.g., performance-based program assessment, educational technology), and possess an understanding and commitment to the principles of diversity. Faculty will integrate CWU's commitment to diversity in teaching, scholarship, and service, and create a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all students.

Primary job duties and responsibilities will take place in Ellensburg, WA. Distance education, online, and off-campus teaching may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a highly related field with a focus on social justice, contemporary multicultural issues, and/or culturally responsive teaching.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience at the PK-12 level OR Possession of or eligibility for a valid teaching certificate for any US state.
  • Research, teaching, service, or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU's commitment to being a model learning community of equity and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications (please address in your cover letter:)

  • University-level teaching experience.
  • Potential to mentor and educate students to serve diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of and connection to Tribal communities of the Pacific Northwest
  • Experience with a range of age levels, diverse populations, and rural settings.
  • Experience with program/department leadership.
  • Experience with distance, hybrid, and online educational systems.
  • Experience in curriculum assessment, development, and improvement.
  • Involvement in professional organizations.
  • Demonstrated training in and/or experience in implementing anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion-related materials or pedagogical practices in credit-bearing courses, certificate programs, or professional development-type trainings, workshops, or seminars

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Annual Salary: $66,000 - $76,000, based on a full-time nine-month appointment
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Appointment: Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Additional Summer teaching may be available. Central Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments from mid-September through mid-June
