Job Summary

The GME Personnel Manager is responsible for all aspects of all academic personnel and payroll-related functions at UCSF Fresno for all 330+ UCSF Fresno trainees - residents, fellows, and non-MD trainees. Trainees are neither faculty, staff, nor students and have an academic appointment through the UCSF School of Medicine regional campus in Fresno. Trainees fall into a separate and unique category of personnel.

The GME Personnel Manager fills a critical role by independently managing the academic affairs, human resources, and payroll-related processes, procedures, and policies that impact more than 30 GME programs in UCSF Fresno across 9 clinical departments. The position also serves as the primary administrator of matters involving academic due process related to the academic performance of trainees as a part of their educational experience.

The GME Personnel Manager applies extensive knowledge, outstanding communication skills, and proven problem-solving and analytical skills to liaise and collaborate with all relevant stakeholders, including GME staff and faculty, UCSF Fresno and UCSF School of Medicine leadership, UCSF Occupational Health, UCSF Human Resources, UCSF IT, and all clinical affiliates. The position requires tact, discretion, and confidentiality always.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $92,900 - $153,100 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF Fresno is a regional campus of UCSF located in the Central San Joaquin Valley and is administered by the Office of the Vice Dean in Fresno, California. The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office is directly responsible for the accreditation and oversight of all the residency and fellowship training on the UCSF Fresno campus under the UCSF School of Medicine. The UCSF Fresno GME Office provides service to the specialty residencies and subspecialty fellowships, which are comprised of physicians in training. The GME Office also works with major training site hospitals to promote the mission of health in Central California by providing innovative and excellent patient care, training the next generation of physicians, and advancing patient-centered research.

The Graduate Medical Education Office is responsible for the full continuum of graduate medical education at the UCSF Fresno regional campus, encompassing residents, fellows, dental education, and ongoing educational opportunities. Activities in this department relate to program quality, process, and all accreditation issues that enable the continued improvement of the UCSF Fresno programs.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 5+ years directly relevant experience in higher education, human resources, or administration
  • Advanced knowledge relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Advanced knowledge of a health professions education program curriculum and requirements. Maintains a broad range of expertise in health professions education theory and industry best practices
  • Advanced knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills to develop and implement complex processes and systems improving program quality and efficiency and reducing cost
  • Excellent communicator; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Ability to handle sensitive personal information with appropriate discretion and judgement
  • Advanced interpersonal skills. Skills to work collaboratively coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization. Successful experience working with people with a wide range of backgrounds and skills
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills. Abililty to lead a team, prioritize personal and team tasks and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule. Advanced personal organization skills and ability to apply to administration of the entire program including organizing critical files for compliance
  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide range of teaching and learning goals
  • In-depth knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting finds about the program
  • Ability to use discretion, tact, and diplomacy, as well as maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in related area preferred
  • 2+ years' experience in labor and employment relations
  • 3+ years' experience in graduate medical education
  • Certified Training Administrator of Graduate Medical Education (C-TAGME)
  • Proven ability to lead and engage in continuous systems and process improvement
