Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to all patrons, maintaining meticulous control over inventory, and efficiently processing transactions. Ensure the bookstore is well-organized and clean, and assist with various clerical tasks. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Greet customers promptly and professionally Use proper etiquette when speaking with customers, whether in person, by telephone or by e-mail. Inventory control of merchandise to be monitored and accounted for as assigned; Process customer transactions at POS register in an efficient manner as assigned. Maintain a high level of accuracy regarding transactions of cash, checks, credit cards and accounts. a) Perform well under high pressure/stress situations, especially during back-to-school rush period, buybacks and other College events. * Maintain store appearance to high standards of cleanliness and organization; * Process receipts and other data into the computer system; * Perform closing cashier functions and balance register drawers as assigned; * Complete filing and other basic clerical responsibilities; * Complete other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Bookstore Operations Assistant Manager and the Bookstore Operations Manager. * Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: * High diploma or the equivalent * Proven work experience in cashiering; retail and/or food service experience is preferred; * Proven computer experience in Microsoft Office to include data input experience; * Strong business aptitude; * Excellent verbal and written skills; * Excellent customer service skills; * Basic clerical skills to include typing, word processing, and filing; * Good organizational and basic accounting skills; * Ability to be detail oriented and perform accurately under pressure; * Ability to work independently as well as with others and be self-motivated; * Professional demeanor; * As this position requires direct contact with college administrators, faculty, staff, general public and students on a regular basis, the ability to deal with all types of individuals via telephone and in-person is extremely important. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, computer, cash register, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
