Minimum Qualifications |
Candidates for the
lecturer position must have at least a master's degree in health administration or a closely related field and relevant work experience.
Candidates to be considered for the
tenure-track position must have a PhD in health care management or a closely related field.
Candidates who are
ABD will be considered, but tenure positions require completion of all doctoral requirements before the date of the appointment. |
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required) |
The department invites applications for multiple faculty positions in healthcare management with areas of expertise in healthcare finance, human resources, leadership, and quality management. Applicants with teaching and professional experience who can facilitate students' application of principles and concepts in healthcare scenarios will be given strong consideration. Applicants with health care industry or other relevant experience are preferred. Successful applicants will have a focus on teaching excellence in both the traditional face-to-face and online environments.
Tenure-track faculty members will teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels and are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities at the program, department, college, university, profession, and community levels.
Lecturer faculty members will teach courses at the undergraduate level as well as participate in service activities. Responsibilities also include advising, coaching, and mentoring students. Lecturers are expected to participate in service activities at the program, department, college, university, professional and community levels. |

Description of the Department or Unit |
Appalachian State University's
Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS) is transforming the health and quality of lives of individuals, families, and communities through inclusive practices, interprofessional collaboration, and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical outreach. The
BCHS supports over 3,400 students in nine undergraduate and nine graduate degree programs, organized into six academic departments. The programs are located in Boone in the Holmes Convocation Center and the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences, the cornerstone of Boone's Wellness District. We also have a presence on our new campus in Hickory. The college supports the Appalachian Institute for Health and Wellness and has a collaborative partnership with the Wake Forest School of Medicine's Physician Assistant Program and multiple health and human service agencies across the region. The
Department of Nutrition and Health Care Management has 22 full-time faculty and approximately 500 undergraduate and graduate students. The
Health Care Management program began in 1972 and has been continuously certified by
AUPHA since 1984. With over 1,400 graduates, the program has a strong network of professionals working in health systems, physician practices, senior care organizations, and other healthcare organizations throughout North Carolina and the nation. Students may choose to apply to the online healthcare management programs beginning in fall 2024. App State also offers an online
Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree that began in the fall of 2016. Learn more at

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Primary instructional duties may include introduction to healthcare systems, leadership, quality management, operations, project management, and/or data management at the undergraduate or graduate levels for the tenure track position, and instructional duties will be at the undergraduate level for the lecturer position. ABD with reduction in rank and salary:
ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since
ABD will not meet the minimum requirements,
ABD will not be considered. |
