The Portfolio Manager is responsible for assisting MBS Commercial Lenders (Account Vice Presidents and Loan Officers) with the management of their portfolios of assigned relationships as well as facilitating initial review of new loan requests from current members and prospective members. Serves as the secondary contact for established borrowing members and works under the general direction of the MBS Senior Account Vice President and Production Manager and the Commercial Lender that has primary responsibility for the assigned relationship. The Member Business Services Department operates as one team, so all team members, including the Portfolio Manager, may be called upon to execute a variety of tasks to better serve our membership.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

o Perform an initial review and evaluation of loan requests and present data to Commercial Lenders. This will include preparation of preliminary cash flows or "dirty cash flows" which will help lenders determine the viability of a loan request and the structure of the potential loan offer. Some instances will involve more in-depth analysis of guarantor cash flows and Uniform Credit Analysis (UCA) cash flows.

o Completion of MBL Checklist and communication to lender and member any need for additional financial documentation required for full analysis of the loan request.

o Work alongside lenders to prepare new loan lender memos to summarize loan requests prior to advancing to the credit department. Portfolio Manager should understand the merits and structure of the request and effectively communicate the purpose of the request within the document.

o Help identify areas of opportunity to deepen relationships with members based on their needs and a value added approach.

o Utilize lead generation sources to maintain and track prospective member opportunities.

o Ensure documentation required for renewals and reviews are collected and delivered to credit department on a timely basis.

o Load renewal and modification requests in loan operating system.

o Load new loan request terms and borrowing structure in loan operating system.

o Generate draft loan proposal letters through loan operating system.

o Generate draft loan commitment letters through loan operating system.

o Coordinate annual review communication meetings with members. Meetings to be led by lender with Portfolio Manager in attendance.

o Help to prepare content for annual review meetings and maintain a list of members whose data is ready for such meeting; and update lenders when an annual review meeting can be scheduled.

o Prepare covenant waiver letters when needed. Track receipt and filing of member signed covenant waivers.

o Monitor upcoming rate changes and update lenders periodically with opportunities for rate modifications.

o Prepare rate modification approval requests.

o Update quarterly watch list with dates and balances in a timely manner. Manage watch list completion.

o Monitor lender financial exception reports. Upload financial information to department files and loan operating system. Initiate financial reporting member communication via customer portal.

o Maintain and keep ongoing contact with Members in partnership with Commercial Lenders while promoting a member friendly environment.

o Attend continuing educational seminars on commercial lending topics to enhance personal knowledge and skill.

o Assist in researching member issues and inquiries and communicate resolution to members.

Required Skills

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

Education and Credentials



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management or related field.
  • College credit hours in accounting preferred.


Experience



  • 2+ years' experience in lending institutions analyzing credit required.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities



  • Strong financial, comprehension, and analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in MS Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to manage numerous time sensitive tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
