Minimum Qualifications
A PhD in Comparative Literature, English, or closely related field is required.

ABD candidates will be considered, but must have completed their degree by the date of hire.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
We are especially interested in scholars who can provide evidence of successful teaching experience with focus on one or more of the following:

  • The ancient world and/or reception studies
  • Have expertise in teaching ancient texts (particularly world mythologies)


Secondary areas of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Ecocritical Studies
  • Animal Studies
  • Digital Humanities
  • Folklore

Candidates with experience teaching World Literature courses and are familiar with issues of translation and circulation are desired; especially if they possess a second language proficiency.

The English department is home to multiple undergraduate programs including Creative Writing, Film, English Education, Literary Studies, and Rhetoric and Technical Writing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position. Teaching load is 3/3, provided faculty produce at least 2 peer-reviewed publications (or equivalent) every 3 years. Service expectations include advising students, participating in committee work, and other related service activities.

Faculty member's must be committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching with the ability to teach introductory as well as major-specific and graduate courses. Pedagogies that support students of all backgrounds are highly encouraged.

Suggested Salary Range Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

ABD Description
ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
