JOB SUMMARY

The Strategic Supply Expert is responsible for managing a portfolio of direct material commodities across locations. This individual will lead strategic sourcing and supply chain initiatives throughout the organization. This individual is expected to provide effective communication and influence as the owner of sourcing vendors, contracts, etc. This position will assess status for benefit realization and assist in identifying areas for continuous improvement.

The Strategic Supply Expert must have the ability to analyze a variety of products, technical requirements, delivery needs and financial ramifications of stocking, purchasing, delivery, and storing of materials for the corporation's need. The Strategic Supply Expert will be exposed to all levels of management, both at the local level, corporate level as well as the supplier level, to deliver year-over-year improvements in material cost, quality, availability and inventory. It is crucial that the Strategic Supply Expert develop an in-depth understanding of supplier capabilities in the marketplace. The Strategic Supply Analyst will be working with confidential data and must be prudent in its use of interpretation. Strategic planning and thinking skills, coupled with analytical and execution skills are critical to the position.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the assigned trading portfolio based on the quality, cost and delivery requirements required by Prolec GE.
  • Manage the updating and forecasting of prices based on historical data, information on sales plans or plant load and deflation calculation.
  • Execute negotiations with suppliers based on the negotiation plan to meet the objectives and goals set forth in the supply strategy.
  • Manage projects to improve the supply of materials and services considering prices, delivery time, quality and risks.
  • Risk management of the materials and/or services in assigned portfolio
  • Select alternate sources of direct suppliers and materials based on business needs.
  • Manage the fulfillment of new supplier registration requirements.
  • Material, price and volume forecasting.
  • Draft and execute supply agreements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Industry: Knowledge of the types of materials used in the electrical and transformer industry.
  • Market: Knowledge of commodities and materials market for transformers.
  • Competition: Knowledge of competitors' main suppliers and sources of supply.
  • Suppliers: Knowledge of capabilities (production, economic, scope, customers, etc.) and competition in their markets.
  • Product/pricing: Knowledge of pricing, costs, quality, reliability and capabilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, supply chain, engineering or operations related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience managing direct material suppliers
  • Negotiations (global experience is a plus)

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Master's degree and/or diplomas, certifications in a business, operations or supply chain related field.
