Responsibilities
A key member of the CFO's leadership team, with primary and global responsibility for managing the Company's technical accounting related matters, including revenue recognition, mergers and acquisitions, internal controls and other new accounting related matters. The Corporate Controller ensures externally reported financial statements and disclosures are prepared in compliance with US GAAP, SEC regulations, and Company policies. Will influence our global finance teams to provide guidance on accounting and financial reporting matters in a complex and matrix environment. Responsible for the overall technical accounting consultations regarding complex accounting transactions and performing research on new accounting issues, the Corporate Controller also guides internal controls, consolidation and SEC reporting teams. Will lead, drive, and manage a high-performing global Corporate Accounting team and actively develop finance talent.
Global responsibility for accounting and related matters (e.g., due diligence, valuation work with specialists, share purchase contract review) for legal entity mergers, divestitures, acquisitions.
- Maintains thorough and current understanding of US GAAP. Keeps abreast of emerging accounting, reporting and disclosure standards. Implements new accounting pronouncements as necessary.
- Oversight of internal controls program to ensure effectively designed and operating internal controls over financial reporting.
- Oversee revenue recognition group and initiate process changes to improve the accuracy of revenue recognition.
- Take a global leadership role in Finance cross functional projects such as post-acquisition integration, tax planning actions, capital/financing initiatives, and financial communications initiatives.
- Play a global leadership role in initiating and implementing process changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Corporate Accounting and Finance functions.
- Collaborate, work, and manage effectively across the company's functional organizations. Promote proactive and effective communication and coordination across groups, both internal and external to the Finance function, to improve efficiency and achieve desired results.
- Serve as a visible and effective ambassador for the CFO. Proactively ensure that important company and functional messages, including priorities and goals, are cascaded throughout the organization. Ensure team members clearly understand their roles and are motivated to achieve goals and objectives.
- Management responsibilities including professional development, performance appraisals using the finance competency model, and employee counseling. Assign project work and reviews workload for direct reports. Manage global staff by establishing goals that will increase knowledge and skill levels, and by delegating tasks commensurate with skill level. Continuously maintain a high-performing global team by actively developing and mentoring direct reports and contributes to the development of future finance leaders.
- Work closely with the Business Groups, Global Business Support, Treasury, Tax, Financial Planning and Analysis, and other functions to ensure the quality, accuracy and consistency of the financial data reported in the general ledger and consolidation systems and effectively address risk factors.
- Monitor and address accounting, close, and reporting practices to optimize process and technology enablers, monitor and address risk factors, and effectively manage a complex portfolio.
- Coordinate with external auditors to provide relevant audit support documentation for purchase accounting, complex accounting conclusions, and in support for the consolidation and SEC reporting, when applicable.
- Oversee Bruker's chart of accounts including reporting hierarchies to support proper management and external reporting requirements.
- Guide the alignment, communication, and maintenance of a clear, well-coordinated and efficient closing process.
- Assist in the SEC reporting process. Review of the Company's consolidated financial statements to ensure compliance with US GAAP.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance required. Master Degree preferred. CPA with 5-10 years Big 4 work experience preferred.
- Minimum 10 years recent and relevant Finance leadership work experience within a public global life sciences, medical devices, or biotech work environment.
- Proven ability to work closely and effectively with business leaders on accounting policies, technical accounting, M&A, and related topics.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with colleagues on initiatives, vision, strategy, and goals.
- Excellent oral, written, computer, technical, quantitative, and proposal communication and presentation skills with proven ability to prepare and deliver concise and polished documents, reports, and presentations
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office and SAP. BPC knowledge preferred
- Proven ability to proactively manage the external auditor relationship.
