Job Description

Park Ambassador (Part-Time)

The City of Peoria Parks and Recreation Department is seeking interested individuals to provide oversight of the parks and sports facility maintenance. Work locations include the City's three community parks, 36 neighborhood parks, and the park's trails and preserve areas.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:



  • Providing front-line public relations and timely, professional, and courteous customer service by assisting park and recreation area visitors and responding to calls for service.
  • Patrolling city parks and recreation areas and identifying inappropriate, suspicious, or unsafe behavior or conditions.
  • Educating the public on park rules and regulations per the City Ordinance.
  • Assisting parks staff with facility opening and closings, as well as the identification of minor maintenance issues within parks assets.
  • Assisting with loose trash pickup and other light custodial work during park patrol.


The ideal candidate for this position will be:



  • Self-motivated and able to work both individually and with a team with an understanding of common techniques, methods, practices, procedures, use of forms, routines, etc., of an intermediate nature;
  • Safety conscious, punctual team player with a high work ethic, with the flexibility to act cross-functionally when the Department's workload demands;
  • Interested in a flexible part-time schedule with an estimated 18-30 hours per week;
  • Open to schedules that vary depending on assignment and could include nights and weekends.
