In addition to participating in all aspects of adult perfusion, the Pediatric Perfusionist assumes responsibility for conducting cardiopulmonary bypass, ventricular assist support, and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation on infant and pediatric patients; utilizes a wide variety of life support devices for our pediatric patients; and actively engages in all aspects of departmental operations.

Education

Required -

Completion of a formal training program in Extracorporeal Technology

Work Experience
Required -

3 years clinical experience.

Certifications

Required -

Licensed Perfusionist in the state of practice by the State Board of Medical Examiners or eligible for Licensure,

Completed training at an approved school of Extracorporeal Technology and be certified, or eligible for certification, by The American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion,

Designated as a Fellow of Pediatric Perfusion by the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology or in the process of application to be completed within 2 years.

Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Conducts cardiopulmonary bypass on infant/pediatric/adult patients in accordance with departmental guidelines and physicians requests
  • Exhibits the skills to follow established departmental compliance and performance improvement standards
  • Pursues educational opportunities designed to improve clinical and technical skills, specifically in the area of pediatrics, by attending meetings/seminars or completing online courses
  • Identifies and participates in areas and methods to improve patient care and safety
  • Stays actively engaged in the daily activities and operations of the department and institution by presenting a positive pleasant attitude to all patients and staff
