Position Summary:

As a Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory (FSQR) Specialist, you will be crucial in delivering top-quality products. Your leadership and collaboration across functions will be vital in fostering a culture where food safety and quality are top priorities. Your expertise will directly contribute to producing the highest quality pet food ingredients, ensuring the well-being of our customers and their pets.

A strong candidate will have:

  • Ability to develop, implement, and maintain Food Safety Plans in full compliance with FSMA and other regulatory standards.

  • Knowledge of HACCP programs, focusing on risk identification and management of critical control points.

  • Strong ownership and accountability for plant food safety, with the ability to lead root cause analysis to resolve quality-related issues.

  • Effective collaborator with operations, fostering a culture that prioritizes food safety and quality.

  • Innovative mindset, consistently seeking opportunities to enhance facilities and improve product and service quality.

  • Detail-oriented, with a commitment to understanding and refining processes and procedures to ensure the production of high-quality products.

You'll make a difference through:

  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure adherence to FSMA and other regulatory standards (such as accurate labeling) through robust Food Safety and Regulatory Programs.

  • Risk Management: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement effective mitigation strategies.

  • Coordination of Audits: Site lead for 3rd party and customer audits.

  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the testing of ingredients and finished products to guarantee they meet safety and quality standards.

  • Record Management: Maintain detailed records of all quality assurance activities, inspections, and compliance checks, and prepare reports for management.

  • Crisis Management: Develop and implement crisis management plans for food safety incidents or recalls.

  • Other tasks and duties assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in food safety and quality assurance, preferably in the pet food industry.

  • Deep knowledge of FSMA, HACCP, GMP, AAFCO, and other relevant food safety and regulatory standards.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Certification in HACCP, PCQI, and/or SQF is highly desirable.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily based in a manufacturing environment, balancing on-the-floor presence with office work.

  • Flexible work hours, including occasional weekends and evenings as needed.

  • Potential travel up to 25%.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $72,900 - $97,180. Wages may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for many benefits, such as vacation, holidays, health, dental, vision, mental health, and retirement plan participation, including an employer contribution of up to 7% into your 401(k).
