Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical field testing and site support.
  • Operate specialized materials testing equipment relating to drilling, excavation, Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) data collections, among others.
  • Repair and maintain relevant equipment and supplies for project work.
  • Secure tools, supplies and equipment from theft.
  • Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels.
  • Process GPR and FWD data using computer software.
  • Prepare figures and drawings using AutoCAD software.
  • Perform laboratory testing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 to 9 years of experience as a field technician or equipment operator.
  • Proficient in mathematics, including Algebra.
  • Ability to lead in an organized, efficient manner
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Computer and software experience (Word, Excel, AutoCad) software is desirable.
  • Welding and/or mechanical experience is desirable.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, drive, and lift heavy objects on a continual basis, and in various weather conditions as required for project needs.
  • Must be able to travel away of the home office regularly for periods of time to meet project needs.
  • Must work well with others.

*Arrangements and payment for training will be made for the successful applicant after their hire date.

Level Placement

Typically, depending on an applicant's education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Mid-Level Field/Lab Technician typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Technical Services III or IV level.
