Application Window Open date: September 3, 2024 Most recent review date: Monday, Sep 30, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Saturday, Nov 30, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description This is an internal recruitment for candidates from the University Writing Program at the University of California, Davis The UC Davis Writing Center (WC) functions as a unit within the Office of Undergraduate Education in the Offices of the Chancellor and Provost, and serving all of the UC Davis community. The primary responsibility of the director of teaching is to provide operational oversight of writing center course instruction. The director will report to the Associate Vice Provost (AVP), the Writing Center. The WC is a new unit and is integral to campus planning and programming efforts to improve success and achieve equitable outcomes for all students, both graduate and undergraduate. The Writing Center (WC) offers courses that instruct students in writing in a variety of contexts. Courses are taught by lecturers with advanced professional training in teaching writing and by PhD students. Courses are offered at all levels, including entry-level writing, lower and upper university composition requirements. In consultation with the AVP, the director bears the following responsibilities: I. ADMINISTRATION/MANAGEMENT OF PROGRAMS (85% EFFORT)
II. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (10 % EFFORT) Continued professional growth and the ability to relate effectively with academic personnel in the WC and other campus units. Provide intellectual leadership and engagement with current scholarship in Writing Studies and/or Rhetoric and Composition. Participate in appropriate professional societies and conferences as appropriate. Give oral presentations to public and professional interest groups as appropriate. III. UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5% EFFORT) Participate in the administration of the WC and the University through appropriate roles in governance and policy formulation.
