Family Health Centers of San Diego is looking for a Medical Director who is responsible for the oversight, review, and administration of the scientific research program within the Laura Rodriguez Research Institute (LRRI). The Medical Director is expected to be the recognized subject matter expert for guidelines, policies, and norms of clinical practice within FHCSD and the wider medical community. In collaboration with the Scientific Director of the LRRI, the Medical Director will ensure that the financial, logistical, and intellectual resources necessary to maintain the scientific research program are strategically and sustainably utilized. Furthermore, they will ensure that appropriate academic and clinical mentorship and training is provided to core scientists and staff interacting with patients. Together with the Scientific Director, the Medical Director is responsible for oversight and development of the strategic resources and collaborations necessary to ensure that health innovation engages and benefits the underserved. For activities related to the LRRI, the Medical Director will report to the President of FHCSD.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides clinical leadership and accountability in achieving LRRI's strategic objectives and operational goals.
  • Oversees the clinical aspects of research projects, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols, patient safety, and ethical standards.
  • Collaborates with the Scientific Director to align research initiatives with clinical practices and patient care standards.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of clinical research protocols, standard operating procedures, and data collection methodologies.
  • Engages with external stakeholders, including clinical partners, regulatory bodies, and funding agencies, to support and expand LRRI's research capabilities.
  • Contributes to grant writing and fundraising efforts by providing clinical insights and ensuring the clinical relevance of research proposals.
  • Monitors and evaluates the clinical performance of research projects, providing guidance and corrective actions as needed.
  • Mentors and supports the professional development of clinical research staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Represents LRRI at clinical research conferences, meetings, and other professional events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Medical degree (MD) with board certification in a clinical specialty relevant to clinical practice at FHCSD. Advanced degree in public health, clinical research, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of clinical practice experience with at least 5 years in clinical research.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage clinical research projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical trial design, implementation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record of securing research funding and grants.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing clinical research staff.
  • Strong commitment to the LRRI mission.
  • Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County, to locations that may have limited access to public transportation proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required. DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: Licensed for a minimum of 3 years.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses.

301,392.00 - 435,344.00

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
