Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine. The new Chair will report directly to the Dean of the medical school. In this role, the Chair is responsible for oversight of the academic, research, and administrative affairs of the Department.

The Department of Preventive Medicine is one of the premier departments of its kind in the country and home to over one hundred faculty with multidisciplinary expertise that include behavioral sciences, epidemiology, nutrition, biostatistics, informatics, public health, and clinical care. These faculty leverage a wide array of approaches to study the determinants, mechanisms, and outcomes of chronic disease of aging as well as healthy aging across the life course. Natural partnerships across the University, including with the Institute for Public Health and Medicine, the Department of Medical Social Sciences, and the Center for Dissemination & Implementation Science, create a rich research and training environment that encourages collaboration and robust training programs.

In 2023, the US News & World Report, ranked the Feinberg School of Medicine 13th in the nation as a research-intensive medical school supported by $706 million of annual research funding. Clinical faculty in the medical school practice in three U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll hospitals. Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

The successful candidate will have training in a field relevant to the preventive medicine with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. or equivalent, a national and international reputation as an expert and leader in their discipline, significant sponsored research funding, and qualifications for appointment as a professor.
