Description

Located in Baltimore, MD, the Foreman's core working hours are 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with a compensation of $25.50.

The Foreman is a full-time position offering a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. The position requires the employee to complete criminal history information background check and drug screening.

The Foreman must know/have experience in Floor Care -stripping/refinishing floors and carpet shampooing and may require using your vehicle to transport persons served. In addition, Melwood's transportation policies must be followed. Liability insurance on your vehicle must be in full force and effect while transporting for or on behalf of Melwood. Melwood will reimburse for mileage according to the Travel policy.

INTRODUCTION

The Incumbent is responsible for planning the daily schedule of the landscape crew and supervising their work to ensure all contract specifications are met to the highest standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

*1. Coordinates and supervises a crew of ground workers and foremen with landscaping and grounds maintenance activities.

*2. Provide normal care of lawns, shrubbery, trees, walks, parking areas and fence lines.

*3. Prepares schedules for cutting, fertilizing, liming, seeding, and application of herbicides, pruning, etc.

4. Observe and report any signs of abnormal development in lawns, shrubs, trees, etc., and recommend improvements as needed.

*5. Ensure crew and staff time sheet accuracy and timeliness. Review and initial, or sign time sheets, ensure proper use of leave, and authorize overtime.

6. Ensure completion and compliance with all other administrative paperwork and/or procedures, as required, to include security measures. Perform duties in conformance with any safety rules, regulations, or procedures given in writing or orally.

*7. Act as a first contact in case of an emergency, accident, incident, or worker problem at the contract site. Provide initial investigation and report to Operations. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of contact sheets, incident reports, accident reports, workers' compensation forms, and any other required reports or records.

*8. Maintains daily records of security, proper use of supplies, equipment, and vehicles as part of the regularly scheduled inspection process.

*9. Attend meetings, in service and conferences as required to keep abreast of the landscape industry and to enhance management skills.

10. Coordinate and assist with snow removal.

11. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must be able to stand/walk 95% of the work time and sit 5% in order to inspect grounds properly, check equipment, and to complete paperwork and grounds tasks, such as, pruning spraying, and riding mowers. He/she must be able to lift/carry 60 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and handle, all requirements necessary for loading and unloading materials and equipment, and for planting, cutting trees, and pruning. He/she must be alert to safety hazards and have a method of communicating, so those around can respond and understand. Must possess good vision and hearing, as this is necessary to drive equipment, inspect grounds work and perform grounds tasks. Mainly work outside. Working conditions are subject to extreme temperature and weather conditions. Work conditions may be inconvenienced by dust, dirt, fumes, or flying objects (grass).

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent and eight (8) years' of progressive experience in grounds work, horticultural skills, and applicable equipment knowledge required. Three years of supervisory skills preferred. Must be able to pass security clearance. Must be able to work flexible hours with some nights and weekends (and overtime) may be required. Clean driving record and valid license required. Prior experience with adults with differing abilities desirable.
