GENERAL PURPOSE

This position is responsible for safely and correctly operating various Fabrication machines and other Fabrication operations including manually welding products as well as operate the Mig-Weld Robot, Spot-Weld equipment and per work assignment description to produce high quality manufactured parts. This position will have the ability to set up or make minor adjustments to various machines. Work assignments will be scheduled based on training proficiency.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

For Welding activity

  • Welds all products (prototypes, custom, fixtures, and standard product) as specified by engineering drawings.
  • Grind and Polish parts as specified.
  • Responsible for quality inspections on products (cosmetic and functional) before and during the welding process. Reports any problems to team lead or department supervisor.
  • Maintains welding equipment, power tools, and fixturing to ensure equipment is functioning properly. This includes, but not limited to: welding gas, wire, hoses, tips, diffusers, nozzles, and abrasives.
  • Basic knowledge of robotic operation. This includes, but not limited to: power on, fixture setups, cycle start (stop, reset) and nozzle maintenance.
  • Trains less experienced welders in necessary welding procedures and techniques (Level I).
  • Report any problems regarding procedures, engineering drawings or other to team lead, department supervisor, or fabrication manager.

For Machine Operation

  • Performs routine set-up and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains the machine tooling by routinely cleaning and checking the tools and spot weld electrodes.
  • Ability to operate spot weld equipment and electrode replacements as required.
  • Operates basic set-up in other fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to schedule work and download/modify spot weld programs.
  • Communicates with the Team Leader and the Set-up about any problems, and the priority of setting up the next job.
  • Conducts basic quality checks within the parameters of the position.
  • Makes routine adjustments, up to and including tools at time to assure parts are within tolerance.
  • Must check parts to print using proper QC measuring equipment.
  • Works closely with and notifies Team Leader when any parts consistently fall outside of the tolerance.
  • At times, may assist Fabrication Associate I on routine needs.
  • Load/unload machines and may check basic cross-reference information to ensure correct part is being processed.
  • Perform any lower level duties such as filing, sanding and light repetitive assembly.
  • Works on the most simple and repetitive jobs with minimal chance of high value errors.
  • Works responsibly and efficiently, adhering to all safety rules and policies while maintaining good housekeeping practices.
  • Ability to use computer to update systems/confirm work orders as well as able to prioritize the order in which to make parts.
  • Assures that basic quality checks are performed at specific intervals on machine parts.
  • Complete clean-up responsibilities and maintain work station according to 5S procedure.
  • Understand workplace hazards and take steps to proactively prevent and report hazards or injuries in the workplace. Cooperate in safety programs, initiatives, and investigations.
  • Perform other duties deemed necessary to support the Company's business operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Welding

  • Ability to operate modern mig-welding equipment
  • Ability to read, write and speak English is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of welding process and techniques
  • Good math skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read engineering and drawings
  • Ability to use measuring instruments (ruler, caliper, square)
  • Ability to use power tools

Machine Operation

  • Basic math skills and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use and interpret measurement tools such as tape measure and calipers
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Ability operate CNC equipment
  • Good motor coordination
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Proven reliability - attendance and punctuality
  • Must understand basic lean principles - 5S, Kanban
  • Ability to read, write and speak English is preferred

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED for normal machine operation, AWS certification or school diploma for welders
  • 2-4 years of minimum experience

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for 8 hours/day while making coordinated movements of the hands and fingers to grasp/pinch, manipulate and assemble objects. This may include frequent use of vibrating/pneumatic tools, overhead and outstretched reaching with arms, bending/twisting/stooping, kneeling/squatting and frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. throughout the day and occasionally push/pull/lift up to 100 lbs. as needed. Although on a regular basis lifting requirements may not exceed 40 lbs. Occasionally, depending on the tasks assigned for the day, you may have to sit or stand more or less frequently. Work may be repetitive in nature.
  • May be exposed to sharp edges.
  • May occasionally be exposed to, smoke, hot metal, dust, high noise level.
  • Tolerate a non-temperature controlled environment.
  • Steel-toed shoes are required for working in this position.
