Ramboll is accepting applications for the Fall 2022 internship program at our offices located in Arlington VA, Portland ME, or Milwaukee, WI. Each participant will be assigned a mentor who will guide them through project assignments. The program will provide internship participants with the opportunity to gain experience working in one or more practice areas. Our goal is to afford our interns experience with a variety of projects during the summer program to broaden their understanding an experience within their field of interest.

The hybrid work environment will include activity in a combination of virtual, office, and field settings in accordance with the most recent COVID-19 guidance.

This position will be on Ramboll's innovation and digital transformation team Galago. Specifically, this role and will work with and support the work of senior geospatial analysts. This may include helping to deliver projects, creating and testing prototypes, or other administrative tasks as needed.

Galago is an innovative service born out of Ramboll that aims to help reduce the risk of environmental damage and human health. We do this by working with landowners and remedial site operators to help them safeguard and protect their land. We use aerial, drone, and satellite data to map our clients land, and then use geospatial analysis and AI methods to find areas for environmental improvement or change. We give our clients a snapshot-in-time of any immediate issues, and we also help them monitor how their land changes over time, diagnose why it is changing, and whether this is an issue, and recommend what they need to do about it. We are a small, fun team made up of commercial and technical experts, and are looking for someone to come in and help us manage geospatial project delivery for our clients. This position will be on Ramboll's Galago team.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Geospatial analysis and visualization


  • Creating web-based GIS applications
  • Geospatial data management and review
  • Creation and maintenance of data dashboards
  • Digitization or creation of datasets
  • Assist in development of machine learning algorithms which may include tasks such as:


  • Creating training data for ML models
  • Developing data pre-processing and data cleaning scripts
  • Deploying computational heavy tasks via the Azure Cloud
  • Analyzing and interpreting ML model predictions

  • Candidates should be working toward a B.S or M.S degree in geography, GIS, environmental engineering, geology, remote sensing, data science, computer science, or other physical science with an interest in pursuing a career in remote sensing and sustainability


  • Candidates with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above are strongly preferred. Candidates with the completion of 4 college semesters (rising Junior status) are strongly preferred.
  • Experience or coursework using geographic information systems and/or python programming
