Position Summary

The Clinical Therapist (Licensed or License-Eligible) at Bell Shelter is responsible for providing a variety of clinical services, including providing group and individual psychotherapy, to participants in our interim housing programs. In addition, the Clinical Therapist will help develop high quality group curricula and clinical treatment planning protocols, perform behavioral health assessments, perform crisis management, and make psychiatric treatment referrals as needed.

Essential Functions

Assist in developing high quality group curricula and clinical treatment planning protocols. Perform individual and group psychotherapy. Conduct behavioral health screenings and assessments and refer clients to community based mental health clinics for psychiatric treatment. If licensed, provide clinical supervision to MFT or MSW Trainees and Interns. Formulate clinical diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plans for Bell Shelter clients and assist case managers with devising effective care plans for clients. Assess and assist clients in emotional distress or crisis to promote emotional well-being and stability. Perform emergency sessions and evaluations with clients who are in crisis. This includes assessing if clients are suicidal, homicidal, or gravely disabled. Complete all required session notes, confidentiality agreements, and other necessary paperwork in the HMIS software system. Provide In-Service trainings for Bell Shelter staff. Help create and maintain a therapeutic environment in which clients are viewed and understood in the context of their life experience and personal strengths and challenges. All other assigned tasks by the Director of Clinical Programs.

PAY RANGE: $35.00-$40.00/HR

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax, and telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Must be a Licensed or License-Eligible Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT/LMFT), Clinical Social Worker (MSW/LCSW), or Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC/LPCC).
  • At least 2 years of experience as a clinician serving individuals with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues.
  • If licensed, the ability to supervise trainees and interns.
  • If a person with a substance abuse history, must have five years continuous sobriety with an on-going program of recovery.
  • Maintain a current TB test and CPR/First Aid Certification.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Possess the ability to meet deadlines and work with attention to detail.
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness in a residential setting preferred.
  • Advanced skills with computers and data entry for reporting of statistical data and presentations.
  • The ability to assess, diagnose, and create treatment plans for clients with psychiatric disorders.
  • The ability to effectively facilitate group therapy and psycho-educational groups.
