Job Description

The Chaplain is the member of the team who is responsible for the spiritual component of the pastoral services for the hospital. This position functions as a competent pastoral care provider with the ability to relate cooperatively with patients, family members, peers and other hospital personnel. This position provides spiritual guidance by studying religious teachings and pronouncements; performing rites; presenting and explaining doctrine; identifying concerns; identifying and evaluating moral and ethical options; offering condolences and support; building and arranging for support.

Responsibilities

  • Visits with patients, families, and hospital personnel and provides an appropriate level of pastoral care services.
  • Participates in creating the plan of care for requested spiritual counseling/care, as evidenced by documentation in clinical records.
  • Oversees the design and implementation of all materials and assessment forms either distributed to families or used in assessment.
  • Develops education programs and memorial services/rituals for staff/families on the spiritual components of loss/ethics as requested by the director.
  • Leads worship services and meaningful devotions.
  • Facilitates cooperative relationships with community clergy.
  • Responds to patient referrals as noted and chart in patient's medical record appropriately.
  • Participates regularly in educational opportunities.


Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree Counseling/Psychology, Theology Preferred

Minimum Work Experience

  • Four Units of Clinical Pastoral Education Required

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Ability to do theological reflection.
  • Accepting and understanding of other theologies and ecclesiology's.
  • Has Emotional and spiritual maturity.
  • Ability to maintain professional and personal confidentiality.
  • Ability to deal with crisis situations and long term stress.
  • Ability to work well as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to function as a participating member of a small group (CPE).
