About Cornell University and the Role

Cornell University, an Ivy League institution ranked nationally for excellence, is seeking an experienced IT Business & Quality Assurance Analyst to join our dynamic Alumni Affairs & Development (AAD) division. This role is part of the Advancement Information Systems (AIS) team, which supports the technology and analytic needs of AAD. If you are skilled in IT business analysis, requirements gathering, quality assurance, and process improvement-and are passionate about impactful work that enhances alumni engagement and university initiatives-this is an ideal opportunity.

Position Overview

As an IT Business & Quality Assurance Analyst, you will play a key role in driving technology projects that support the mission of Cornell's Alumni Affairs & Development division. You will work on diverse, high-impact projects, from small initiatives to large-scale, enterprise-wide implementations. In this role, you'll partner closely with project managers, technical teams, and end-users to ensure requirements are met, testing is thorough, and solutions align with AAD's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Requirements Gathering and Analysis: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document business requirements. Translate these into functional specifications that guide project development and align with business goals.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Lead testing efforts by developing test plans, scripts, and cases, and perform validation testing. Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful outcomes, and support end-users with UAT training.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a liaison between technical teams and business users, communicating complex technical concepts in accessible language, and providing regular updates on project status and key findings.
  • Process Improvement: Analyze current business processes to identify areas for improvement. Recommend and implement changes that streamline operations, improve data accuracy, and support AAD's technological goals.
  • Documentation and Project Tracking: Organize project documents, track progress, and manage project deliverables, including capturing meeting notes, tracking action items, and ensuring documentation is current.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Experience: 5-7 years of experience in IT Business Analysis and Quality Assurance, including 1-3 years supporting technology-driven projects.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), and other productivity and analysis tools. Familiarity with SQL, data analysis, and Agile methodologies is a plus.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong critical thinking skills with a keen ability to identify root causes and devise solutions that align with business needs.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, building consensus and ensuring clarity.
  • Project Management Familiarity: Experience with project management methodologies and the software development lifecycle, with an understanding of how to prioritize tasks across multiple concurrent projects.
