Job Summary

The Mandarin teacher will instruct students in the middle school and at University High School.

Responsibilities also include working with Illinois State University students in teacher education programs.

Metcalf Laboratory School is a service unit of the College of Education of Illinois State University. It offers a comprehensive program of instruction for 400+ students in grades PreK-8. Metcalf is a caring community of life-long learners. Its mission is to act as a model for educational methods and theory in support of the preparation of future educators, conduct educational research, offer quality educational programs for children, and disseminate information to others in the educational profession.


Salary Rate / Pay Rate

Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience, combined with an excellent benefits package


Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree
2. Current Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement or specialization in Foreign Language - Chinese- Mandarin (PK-12)
3. Experience with providing individual and small group interventions


Preferred Qualifications

1. Master's Degree
2. Experience or proven interest in research, publication, and/or professional development activities.


Work Hours

School hours Monday - Friday with occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate.


Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

1. Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis.
2. Ability to use a computer in day-to-day work (i.e. type on a keyboard and use a mouse).
3. Ability to conduct or attend meetings in various locations on and off campus.
4. Ability to maintain a high level of concentration.
5. Ability to lift 40 pounds, kneel, squat etc.
