Mechanical Engineer

Summary of position:

This is an on-site position in Houston, Texas. This position is responsible for product design through detail layouts to achieve a workable design or assembly. These designs are mainly related to Wire line and MWD type instruments or some down hole tools. Performs detail analysis of concepts through finite Element Analysis or other means and verify the design performance through empirical means. Build the prototype design and verify its performance through additional teasing. Incorporate the final design into upper assemblies if required and perform final qualification and testing of overall assembly. Provide novel approaches for engineering new products and suggest improvement to existing product lines. Lead other designers and technician during the design and development phase of the project.

Essential functions and duties:



  • Develops a detailed understanding of required design through research and study of prior art of available literature.
  • Performs design layout for mechanical parts and assemblies through Auto-Cad or Solid Works.
  • Works with engineering team to select the primary and alternative concept for prototype development.
  • Conducts detailed analysis and testing to evaluate design approaches.
  • Provides detail drawings when applicable and lead project designers to complete remaining work to complete the detail design.
  • Completes the product assembly and evaluation though final testing
  • Conducts final design reviews of new products prior to transfer to manufacturing and solicit suggestions for improvement in manufacturing engineering
  • Ensures that all products related information such as BOM's, drawings, procedures, etc. are in place in time for product manufacturing engineering.
  • Conducts failure analysis of the existing designs and suggest improvements and design changes.


Non-essential functions and duties:



  • Works with vendors as needed and guide them through final testing.


  • Follows all safety and health guidelines/rules for the company
  • Follows the 5s procedures for department
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering
  • Mininmum 5years of experience related mechanical design.
  • Emphasis on Wire line/MWD tools, specialty in machine design experience.
  • FEA modeling capability
  • Masters in Mechanical Engineering a plus
  • Understanding of drafting standard Y14.5 and GD&T
  • Excellent technical and leadership skills
  • Hands on exposure of mechanical assemblies and repair

  • Minimum of 5 years experience using Solidworks.



  • Experiencewith Autocad is a plus.

  • Ability to read and interpret training documents, safety rules, and procedural documents
  • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills - verbal and written


Mathematical skills:



  • The ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of solid modeling and drafting software


Reasoning ability:



  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent technical skills in engineering and design analysis and testing


Work environment:

  • Must be able to type on a computer for 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to use a computer monitor, computer mouse and computer keyboard for at least 8 hours per day
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to adapt to frequent changes to work processes
