The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure-eligible Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) is an 894-bed academic medical center hospital that is the primary teaching affiliate for the Feinberg School of Medicine and has nearly 1,900 affiliated physicians representing virtually every medical specialty. Northwestern Memorial Hospital ranks among the top hospitals in the nation and is recognized for providing exemplary patient care and innovative advancements in a variety of clinical areas including cardiovascular care; oncology; neurology and neurosurgery; geriatrics; solid organ and soft tissue transplants; orthopaedics; and women's health at its Prentice Women's Hospital.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership, vision, and direction for the creation and progressive growth of the Behavioral Health Immediate Care Clinic (BHICC).
  • Providing medical leadership for the program by establishing the program's standard of care. Acts as a clinical resource for others who provide care within the Service. Provide clinical care within the BHICC along with the Psychiatric Emergency Department.
  • Overseeing faculty who deliver care in the Service, and establishes expectations around practice style, productivity, etc. Collaborate with other faculty who provide care in the Psych ED.
  • Developing and updating programs to improve clinical outcomes, quality of service, and the patient experience. As modalities are updated to represent technological advances, the Director ensures that care delivered represents the most effective treatment methods.
  • Communicating effectively with providers who refer patients to the BHICC; keeps referring providers informed about recommendations for neuromodulation care, expected duration of services, interval updates, and outcomes.
  • Maintaining the quality of service and maintaining capacity to meet volume demands.
  • Programmatic growth/expansion by identifying opportunities, educating referring providers, soliciting referrals, and recruiting other faculty as needed to provide service.
  • Supporting the department's training and research missions.
  • Overseeing resources for the BHICC, including rooms, equipment, and personnel; maintains a schedule of providers who are affiliated with the Service to ensure uninterrupted care.
  • Participating in interviews and performance reviews of any independent clinicians who are assigned to the Service (which may include advanced practice nurses, social workers, and psychologists).
  • Convening provider meetings to review operational issues, share strategies in order to improve practices, and provide administrative updates to the group.
  • Advancing the goals of NM with regards to quality, safety, patient satisfaction, operations and other key performance indicators.
  • Attending requested and required meetings, including regularly scheduled meetings with other clinical and administrative leaders.
  • Collaborating and communicating effectively with other clinical and administrative leaders and all team members to assure consistency across the program.
  • Providing advanced clinical consultation to clinical staff and trainees.

Qualified candidates will be:

  • Current Illinois medical license in good standing (license pending considered) and be board certified (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology)
  • Shall be and remain a member in good standing of the NMH Medical Staff
  • Must maintain required privileges to provide neuromodulation services at Northwestern Medicine
  • Must be knowledgeable about working with an adult population ranging from adolescent to geriatric, including patients with communications barriers, sensory impairment, and physical limitations, including but not limited to developmental, mobility, vision or hearing impairments
  • Must have expertise in adult psychiatry including patients with serious and persistent mental illness and difficult-to-treat mood disorders
  • Must be able to communicate and interact effectively with colleagues, patients, and family members to coordinate care and resolve issues.
